Reward Thyself
My arm hurts. Actually, my whole body hurts right now, a dull pounding ache exacerbated by the tapping on the Mac backlit keyboard.
I scraped an entire porch today. Plus, painting the foundation of the house. Plus, pressure washing the downstairs porch.
Not complaining. Okay, yes, I AM complaining.
Or bragging.
For all of that effort, I ate a big fat piece of cow, rubbed in coffee and cooked medium rare, at one of my very favorite restaurants. I decided at about three o’clock this afternoon that I needed this outing as a reward for the aching agony that is scraping and painting an antique house in downtown Charleston.
Rewards are a good thing. Don’t you think?
Too Much is Just Enough: Personal Rewards

I feel your pain, and an effort like yours is certainly worth treating yourself. The lovely Miss Teresa did yard work yesterday and I pounded 3 1/2 inch nails for 4 hours at Habitat and plumb wore my arm and knees out.
My plan to reward ourselves with a nice evening out was thwarted when we were both too sore and tired to go out. So, we stayed home, caught up on some taped TV shows and conked out early.
Now, today could be another story, maybe a stop at “The Old Fashioned Ice Cream Shop” during our errands. A nice sandwich and maybe a scoop of yummy chocolate chocolate fudge with chunks of dark chocolate….YUMMMMM!
Hope you have another wonderful day for your painting thingy, and give yourselves treats all day as your just rewards.
That sounds like a trip I need to take. I don’t know why I love their crinkle cut fries so much. I hope you and TK are enjoying this lovely Sunday.
GASP!!!! That’s from Michael and me. We had a ball sitting in the yard in lawn chairs getting our sun tan while watching you work.
Rest assured we truly appreciate your coming all the way down here to ‘sit and watch’ with a scraper in one hand and a paint brush in the other. Next time you need to stay longer so you we can include you in the rewarding part, as well.
THANK YOU!
Yes, it was pleasant to have someone to talk to during all that hellacious scraping. Thank you for coming.
Ha. You worked very hard.
There is no doubt about it, painting is hard work. The good thing about this is that you and MTM are taking pride in your home and are investing sweat equity into it. You both will be proud of how your home looks when it is all said and done. I am not sure that I would want a piece of steak rubbed in coffee, but if that is what rewards you, then by all means chow down on some steak. I like Lou’s suggestion when it comes to the chocolate ice cream. I think I want two scoops of that with my coffee this morning for breakfast. LOL…
I worked for five hours at our IOP office yesterday rolling out new computers and pulling out the old computers. I took my son Justin with me and paid him 8 bucks per hour to help me crawl under the desks and pull the CPU’s and straighten up wires etc. Now he has earned his money for the concert he wants to go to Monday night in downtown Charleston. There is a good chance I will have to take him to the concert and then waste 3 hours downtown while I wait for it to be over.
It sounds like you’ve been very productive this weekend though. If you want to wile away 3 hours by coming over to paint, have at it.
Treat yourself indeed. You deserved it!
I still have leftovers for today, too!
And what did MTM think of this slab of flesh? I personally think it sounds wonderful. Would have been especially wonderful with a good cigar and a glass of port.
In fact, now you have got me thinking about steak! But I must confess that I should do something worth rewarding myself for before reaping those rewards. And no, I don’t need any suggestions…..
Good going on the house, the soreness, and the reward. And that was only Saturday. You still have Sunday left to go!
Heading back out there now.
And yes, that steak is to die for. It is always a special treat for me. I don’t know how they do it, and I’ve never been able to replicate it at home.
Rewarding one’s self is always in style.
Especially when you force yourself to do work.
You did the right thing!
The more we do on this house, the more it seems we need to do, though. Big holes in the piazza ceiling now.
