I’ve Lost My Mind
But, you knew that already, didn’t you, Dear Reader? I’ve lost my mind……..for the color red.
It has always been my favorite color. At least, since sometime in my teens. That I got to bedeck myself in it last night was spectacular for me. I cannot lie, though. Seeing MTM in it almost made me cry.
MTM wore a red shirt once. He doesn’t wear it often, but this one time, it was something else, almost like a fantasy world in my own mind. Only, he was sitting right next to me, asking me a life-altering question.
MTM asked me to go steady on Valentine’s Day, 2003. He wore the same red shirt that he wore last night. He took me on a date to the same restaurant where we had dinner after our black-clad wedding. He sat across the table from me – same red shirt, same glorious face – and I lost my mind.
Again.
My glorious man is no fantasy. He’s real. He’s my family. And, let me tell you, Dear Reader: he’s astonishing in red.
Too Much is Just Enough: The Color Red

Very nice post, I am always amazed at how vividly some people can remember the details of a particular event. Of course, the whole getting married thing is a pretty big deal, I’ll give you that.
This will likely get me in trouble with the lovely Miss TK, but, I know I wore a dark suit at our wedding, but, couldn’t tell you much more than that. The good news is that I remember exactly what she wore and how stunningly beautiful she was.
The event that stands out to me about our wedding is how the cake melted. That’s right, melted…. and it wasn’t an ice cream cake. You see, we had a small wedding in our town home in Columbus, Ohio, and May 22nd was the first really hot day of the Spring and the first day we turned on the A/C. Guess what, the A/C did not work, and it was a holiday weekend no help available. So, it was hot and the cake began to sag due to the heat while we were all doing our best to keep from sagging as well.
All ended well, though, we had a great wedding with our families and 4 other very close friends and we zoomed off to a Honeymoon cruise the next morning. I could not tell you what either she or I were wearing to save my soul, though.
Too much saggy cake is just enough to launch a marriage.
I love the saggy cake story!!! Love it!!! Just think. You could recreate it every year for your anniversary by just putting a cake outside for a little while.
You got that right, what a great idea! soggy and saggy cake…or is that me??
It is not you, Lou. You both still look the same as your wedding pictures.
I like red, but I don’t seem to have nearly enough of it in my wardrobe. I did knit a red top last year, it came out well, but the experience of knitting it was unpleasant, so I don’t wear it as much as I should. I have two unfinished red tops, but they are too large, and I would need to frog them (rip, rip, get it?) and restart.
I really started this comment to say something profound about love, marriage, and the persistence of memory, but ended up tangled in yarn, which is another kind of love, I suppose.
I think you would look amazing in red, Vera. I don’t think I have ever seen you wear it.
Patrick never formally asked me to be his girlfriend, and his marriage proposal was along the lines of, “it’s about time we get married.” Still, I like stories of romantic proposals all around, and the memories that our senses pull out of us.
Just found a bag full of very pretty red yarn and a cardigan pattern to knit sometime this summer. I’ll see what develops.
I always love it when a couple just falls together in that meant-to-be fashion that doesn’t require discussion. Like you two.
I hope you will post pics of your red adventure.
The “Red Aventure Cardigan” sounds good.
I am glad I red this post… sorry, had to do that. If I hadn’t I would have been blue! I know you are green with envy at my wit.
Now, I can usually figure out your pictures, but this one I can’t. Where is it from?
I would think MTM would look quite good in red. Why doesn’t he wear it more often? Especially with the effect it seems to have on your, I would think he would pull that shirt out quite a bit more.
Very funny Carnell.
The picture is from dinner at Fulton Five last night. It is also where we had dinner after our wedding.
I think MTM saves the red shirt because he asked me to go steady in it. I am the same way about the dress he first saw me wearing.
Steady?? Are you afwaid to say “mawwaige” ?
He asked me to go steady, and then he asked me to marry him about a year later.
Wuv, twu wuv. Going stead though? Did he give you his letterman’s jacket? Do people still go steady?
I don’t think I have been steady most of my life.
Maybe he saves the red shirt because he knows it will get him out of trouble when he really, really needs it.
Hahaha. Your theory about the red shirt just may be true.
Ah, beautiful sentiment. I guess, perhaps, love does exist? You make me think it’s possible.
Story of Red. One day at work I wore red, red dress, red shoes, red stockings – had to fax some documents (this was when I was in my 30′s), machine (to make a long story short) broke, went to the copier to make copies, machine broke, went upstairs to other copier, machine broke, went to use another companies machine and they refused to allow me to use their machine as it was brand new and were afraid the machine would break. After that, my bosses banned my wearing all red….I guess I tended to short out things? Ha.
Love your love story Andra, and love yours to Lou.
Thanks, Lori, I posted some photos on FB, sure brings back great memories.
Lori, that is an awesome story. You are so smoking hot in red that you short out things.
You should defintely wear it more often.
Red is my favorite color, too. When I was six, I got a tomato red bedroom. ttyl.
Red is peaceful, isn’t it?
Now, with a buildup like that, I definitely think the pic with this post should have been MTM in that red shirt…
I’m with you on that.
Tried to take a photo but didn’t get a good one. It just leaves the door open to try again.
Maybe you should just buy him some red undies!!
He would never, EVER wear red undies, Carnell…….
