Twas the Week Before Closing

Twas the week before Closing, and all ‘round the house
We were prepping for moving, myself and my spouse.
The shutters were hung on the windows with care,
To make sure the contract was in force and square.
.
The furniture will be next week, chairs, tables and beds,
But all the little things to be boxed is something we dread.
And Andra in her sundress, and I in my khaki,
Are not dressed for packing, but more likely for slacking.
.
Ten years in one house means much has been amassed,
So sorting, boxing or tossing does not go so fast.
Persevere we must, as our sale date approaches
The house must be empty, except for the roaches.
.
Our new place is smaller but quiet and bright,
We’re sure that it will suit us and fit us just right.
We’ll miss some convenience of living so close,
But we’re escaping to Cool Blow, 11 Marion ‘adios.’

A guest post by MTM….gotta get rid of this earworm that has been running through my brain all day as I finished hanging the purple shutters requested by our buyer.

Your a poet,
and we didn’t even know-et!
So sad that we will no longer be able to hang out with the college kids.
MTM is the poet. I’m not very poetic.
Sounds like you’re keeping your sense of humor intact . . .
What kind of roaches?
The “polite” term, Nancy, is Palmetto Bugs…..nasty things,, as big as your thumb!
I say again. ICKY.
Icky ones.
Because purple everywhere is so perfect, right? (Why is there a small part of me that yearns for purple shutters?) There’s a British college research team seriously examining earworms. I think if you google “earworm study” or something it will come up. I’ve been sending them my earworms for a week now. it does NOT make them go away. But I feel comfort in the knowledge that SOMEBODY is going to open one of those forms and burst into “They’re waiting for me/they’re watching for me/ EVERY single night/ they’re driiving me insaane…”
All I can say is that I can’t WAIT to move. My eyeballs are seared every time I got outside and get in the car.
Is it weird that I feel bad about the roaches being left behind?
We could spray the house until it would kill people, and the roaches would somehow live. They’re everywhere in the Lowcountry.
As a veteran of many more moves than I care to count, I am in awe that you are only now getting to the “sorting, boxing or tossing” and I do not envy you one bit! I, too, would like purple shutters…..wonder if I could persuade my sister/housemate?
It is the same neon purple as the purple house I wrote about several months ago.
Oh, well then, never mind! I was thinking more along the lines of a gentle lavender or lilac…..
Great way to share a story! I’m impressed…the creativity under one roof is just outstanding. Many wishes for much happiness in the new home! Debra
He couldn’t WAIT to post this, Debra. The roaches part especially made him smile.
Love the poem MTM. You two are so very talented.
Happy Boxing.
I only wish the color was the right purple. It isn’t neon enough here.
Love the poem MTM.Good luck with the packing . . . been there, done that twice in the past two years.
I’m sure we’ll be doing it again in six months or so…….
Upon our last move from Summerville to our temporary digs prior to the move back to the condo…I discovered that a full day of packing boxes is best soothed by copious Firefly Sweet Tea Vodkatinis. Shake a couple of ounces of Firefly, juice of 1/2 a lemon with lots of cracked ice until the shaker if frosted. Strain into a very cold ‘tini glass. Drink and repeat as needed.
With the way my week has started, I don’t know why I’m not drunk right now………….
I completely understand…
When I saw your uploaded purple square my first thought was “that’s the same color as the shutters only the shutters are MUCH brighter!” I think I need to drive by your house to have my retinas burned. Love the poem and enjoy your new journey!
The buyers LOVE it. That’s what matters at this point. I can go sit in the condo and have peace when my eyes burn too much.
Wow, MTM… didn’t know you were such the poet… Literary Talent runs deep in your household it seems. You are lucky to have an ‘Andra in a Sundress’… I’ve always liked the Coochie Mama Photo at the top. Makes me think of Debra Messing… which is a good thing.
Good Luck at One Cool Blow!
MTM took the photo at the top, Ted. I couldn’t figure out why he kept making me walk that way…………
Good to see a sense of humor whence packing up a house. Good luck with the rest of the packing. It’s the small “stuff’ that takes forever – and the books.
If I didn’t have a sense of humor, I would be insane.
Hope all goes well and you do not reach the “Oh, sod it, just chuck everything in,” stage which I always reach. You won’t. You’re much more organised
You are being very charitable. We are in okay shape right now, though.
LOL like the twist…
Me too.
Poetry and PURPLE. Ack!
Those are some shutters!
Hideous. Two more days…….
