Can’t Be Too Careful With Your Company
by Andra Watkins on April 29, 2012
Welcome to “One Night in Bangkok” the series. Follow me through Hong Kong and Bangkok while I act as my Rotary Club‘s delegate to the International Convention in Thailand, with posts that are titled from the lyrics of the song “One Night in Bangkok.” If this is your first visit to the series, please click here to begin at the beginning.
Welcome to my view for most of the past twenty-four hours.
The subway was breezy, winding through corridors that smelled like men’s cologne. Darkness and humanity enveloped us as we embraced the steamy brick sidewalk above-ground. At least, we are accustomed to a little humidity with our waning day.
I think I’m going to like Hong Kong.

Have a great time and remember to say YEEHAW to everyone you meet so they’ll know you’re one of those wacky Rotarians.
I will tell them all Lou Mello said YEEHAW. I bet every one of them will know who you are.
Rotarians do not say YEEHAW!
Lou does, and he is Mr. Rotary.
Oh Dear Lord. He does actually.
Hahaha! I love the bird shit on the window. Like adding insult to injury.
We flew over the North Pole. The windows were all covered with crystal.
I look forward to being regaled by your East Asian adventures.
Regaled is a strong word for turning into a puddle of my own sweat.
I just read Lou’s comment and I’m just laughing away…that’s so funny! I have heard so many people share their love for Hong Kong. What a wonderful opportunity and I look forward to hearing all about it. Take lots of pictures and do share
Debra
I will try to go easy on the travel pictures, Debra, at least on the blog, but I will share our Flickr account for those who love admiring travel photos in earnest. We don’t have much up there yet, but we will in a couple of days.
You should absolutely go get a Chongsam made at one of the 24 Hour Tailor shops in Hong Kong! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheongsam
You would look wonderful in a custom tailored silk brocade chong sam!

This looks affordable! http://chinesetailor.com/
We’ve had a personal tailor recommended to us in Bangkok. MTM already has a long list of stuff he wants………….
Get it all!
Andra, I agree – you would be stunning in a Chongsam! Have a wonderful adventure.
Thank you, Jill.
I don’t think they make them big enough to fit me. I once tried on about twenty of them in San Francisco, and it was mortifying.
I am on a mission for a rice paper old lady hat for my bridge walk. The one I have is coming apart.
When they make them to your measurements, they fit you1
And, they call me fat in Chinese………..
Oh, the subway in Hong Kong… Thanks for bringing us on your adventure!
You are welcome.
> Darkness and humanity enveloped us
That sounds like some of my adventures in N.Y.
I can see that JD.
Those first impressions. Very vivid.
Hope tomorrow is a great one: and cannot wait to see whether you get measured up for that chong sam.
They would likely laugh my lard butt right out of the shop. Especially since I have been an eating machine since I got here.
Did you wave at Santa as you crossed over the North Pole . . . he sees you when you’re sleeping, even in a fast plane to China.
Enjoy every minute!
I was asleep!!!
Enjoy the flight and stay safe.
Hugs,
Kathy
Thanks, Kathy.
Have a wonderful time! And stay safe!
Thank you!! Safety all the way.
Late to the party today….in fact, there’s another post awaiting in my mailbox! Loved your 24-hr. view, but I suspect the one you have now is MUCH better!! I, too, am looking forward to photos and wondrous blogging tales. Enjoy!!
We do HAVE a view from our hotel room, but it is largely of other skyscrapers down corridors of concrete. Still, this budget hotel is pretty awesome.
I was only in Hong Kong for a few hours, so never got to see much. I was trapped by a Japanese tour group (30 plus Japanese tourists and me) which meant we saw a lot of places to shop and not much else.
We mostly walked on our first day. Tomorrow, we’re going to climb to the Peak if the weather permits.
I’m not fond of ice crystals on the window of a plane….
Always disconcerting………
I have you to blame for getting that DAMNED SONG stuck in my head. I have been humming it constantly. Well, that and some Christmas carols for some odd reason. But I figure those are your fault too.
I am sure everything is my fault.
Well of course it is. You don’t think I would take responsibility for any of my mess, do you?
Man, I got that song playingnin my head too!
It does that.
