Stand By Me
Saying “I do” doesn’t necessarily render a mate who will stand, glued to one’s side through the craziness of life. MTM is that mate to me, though, steadfast and controlled while I psycho-scream and bounce off the ceiling, a set of perpetual behaviors I am *possibly* embarking upon in the coming days. Because he will always stand by me, MTM offered to do the most chivalrous of things: he is taking over my blog for the next week.
Really, it is all the fault of Kate Shrewsday.
She answered Sidey’s weekend question “What would your seven wonders be?” with the answer “Whatever MTM says.” (See her delightful post here and Sidey’s original challenge here.)
For the next seven days, MTM will divide his time between my blog and Kate’s, devoting a post a day to his Seven Architectural Wonders. Given that MTM has taught architecture in both Europe and America, his discussion promises to be a glimpse into his maddening minimalism design aesthetic that causes him to admire buildings like this:

Tomorrow, her blog will carry his text, and mine will host his photos. We will alternate days on our blogs until Kate has her list, a complete MTM Seven Architectural Wonders. In his own words.
Think of it. Your chance to ask MTM why he admires giant scary eyeball buildings. Why he likes furniture that has no padding for delicate rear-ends. Why concrete is the messiah of all substances.
With all this action, I may not be able to force myself to stay away…………..

I am SO looking forward to this. Thanks, MTM
Pen and notebook at the ready…
He will be sending his first one before the close of business here today.
He has already taken this as quite a serious challenge, and it has been fun to watch him work on it.
concrete – it is all things to all people!
Now that I live in a concrete building, I suppose I should get with the ‘messiah of all substances’ program……….
Yay! Every day you get cooler and cooler!
Looking forward to this. I’ve just been reading Kate’s blog so I was prepared.
I don’t even know what they are, Roger, so I’m looking forward to it as well.
Oh My! This should be some kind of fun. From Johnny Five Alive buildings as pictured above to concrete jungles in Denmark. Looking forward to the architectural cwazzzziness, fo sho.
I just hope I like one of them………
Wow, MTM has two fantastic women. I bow to his calm collected manliness…
And, of course, his architectiness……….
Taking care of two different women at the same time – on two different continents. That is really a stretch.
Bad, Carnell. Really, really BAD.
This is going to be very very cool. Free college level content in a course I totally never took but would be willing to go back and take now because I find it fascinating. Can’t wait.
Some of the things I’ve learned from him have enhanced my writing, I think. He is a very gifted teacher.
I’m not sure the intertrucks can handle all this awesome.
Squee.
It’s great that the timing worked out so well.
You are taking this “in sickness and health” thing to the extremes, and I can’t wait to go there with!
I’m just really grateful to Kate for coming up with the idea, and to MTM for being willing to do it.
I’m looking forward to the series!
That’s a cool building, but I think I like it better for the fact that I don’t have to live with it.
I’m glad it’s on another continent………..
If you guys keep this up I am going to be forced to retire! I am having trouble keeping up with all this creativity. A job is really getting in my way! But I’ll do my best…I’ve already cut my sleep down by about two hours a night. If you could just be a little less interesting….D
I am really looking forward to this one myself. And, as I am sure I will be without sleep, it will make good company.
Debra, I don’t even have a regular job and I’m struggling to keep up these days
Of course, these will be posts that I just can’t save for later! Andra, MTM, Kate- thank you all
Don’t need to ask MTM why he admires giant scary eyeball buildings, as it’s obvious they are totally cool, though being rather short of padding myself, I can’t say as I appreciate furniture that has no padding for delicate rear-ends.
This should be fun!
I’m not totally sure he admires this building, but his excitement over seeing it in person was fodder for making fun.
So, what’s the deal here? I have to go ask Kate what the building you have displayed is, and where?
Starting tomorrow, MTM will be writing his posts. She will have the story, and I will have the pictures. We will flip it the next day and so forth.
For today, the building I have displayed is in Curitiba, Brazil. It is the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, the Brazilian architect who designed much of the capital city of Brasilia.
Looking forward to the serials… Cool Scary Eyeball Building!
Not like this surprises me at all–MTM is “that guy”–but what a partner you’ve found! You two are quite the team…can’t wait to hear all about things I’ve probably never noticed ever (but should have) as I’ve flown over, drove by, or looked at them.
Bring it, Michael.
He makes others see the world differently. That’s for sho.
This will be a WONDER-filled series.
MTM doesn’t disappoint, Nancy.
