A Burst of Happy In My Mouth
I don’t often get gifts in the mail. Okay, okay. Not counting the ones I point-and-click for myself.
But, I have never-ever received a gift from a passing comment on a blog.
Robert Johnson at The Quotidian Hudson is one of my favorite bloggers. Through the lens of his talented eye, he helps me visit New York City almost every day. It’s not the same as having the sounds and the smells, but I can imagine everything there, in his pictures.
When Robert mentioned that he was making salsa several months ago, I posted a comment to say I wanted some. It was my tummy doing its wishful thinking. I didn’t really expect him to comply.
Yet, when we got back from our Holiday Trip to Hell, I found two sealed jars of green and red hotness sitting on my kitchen island. It was the perfect gift at just the right time.
Thank you, Robert.
Robert and I collaborated a while back on a post, a tribute of sorts to my father. I wrote the text on my blog, and he took the gorgeous pictures. Take a look.

Any friend who sends food in the mail is good in my book
I totally agree, Tori.
Very cool, now we will all have to provide the Queen with sumptuous goodies as befits her station in life among the minions.
No more goodies. I am still trying to work off the holiday pounds that crept back on.
Wow, not only gifts, but food gifts! Well done. (I am going to be a good boy and ignore the title of this blog entry…)
My big question, and I probably already know the answer, is does the salsa have cilantro?
I’m sure it does, but if Robert sees this post today, he can answer if so inclined. Maybe he can sneak it into a dish and then laugh at me when I eat it and say, “Yum. That’s good.” Nico Romo did that to me one time. He put a cilantro relish underneath some escargot at one of his dinners, but he didn’t tell me until after I licked the plate clean.
I knew you really didn’t hate cilantro, you just think you do!
No. I really hate it. Some people are trained to disguise it well.
How sweet (er, spicy)…
I haven’t broken the seal, yet. I think one is hotter than the other.
Friends who send mason jars of goodness are keepers, indeed.
Especially when it’s something they love to make. I remember the first time he wrote about his salsa in 2011.
Yay! Salsa for you and a new bloggity friend for me. Sharing all the way around. Yay!
I hope you enjoy, Lori. His pictures are my little trip to NYC every day.
How very cool!! By the way, I’m loving the new background color. The new font, though, is very small and shows up like it’s been printed on a machine running out of toner, with white space in letters and stuff.
Another one of my readers has emailed me about the fonts. If you see anything else, I have a growing list of things to address. Thanks for pointing that out.
I like this one better – it’s much more legible!
The best kind of gift to have waiting after a long, long trip. Looks yummy, Andra.
I’m looking forward to cracking it open.
How thoughtful and fun! I’m interested in Robert’s blog. I enjoy vicarious travel almost as much as my own fieldtrips!
I was tickled to death, Debra.
I’m blushing…
No cilantro. We always add that as a topping (and we do always add it in!)
Thanks for the plug!
Hope you enjoy.
FYI: The one with the red highlights is hotter. (Well, naturally)
I figured you’d warn me if the recipe contained the devil weed.
Food gifts = Good gifts! How FUN!
A burst of happy in my mouth.
Someone at Rotary this morning actually said, “You come up with the most shocking titles……” I replied, “Well, you read it, didn’t you?”
