Dixieland And Dixie
And just like that, it is my birthday month. Again. It is better to celebrate the arrival of another impending birthday, because the alternative is……………..
MTM paid attention to my plaintive whining and created a fabulous Dixieland Lobster Meal to lead off my birthday month. Gluttony is not a bad way to celebrate another tick toward the grave.
The whole menu:
Between the Sheets: Clean out the Liquor Cabinet Cocktail
Lobster Bisque with Fresh Chives
Lobster with Morels, Asparagus, Carrot and Creme de Mar
Lobster Roll with Tarragon, Orange and Bibb Lettuce and Swiss Chard Confetti
Dessert: None of your business….
Do you celebrate your Birthday Month as an adult? Why? Or why not?

Nah, I hate reminding my friends how old they are…
Maybe that’s why I used to have more friends than I do now…………
Andra, I don’t think I was aware that your birthday month and my birthday month are the same. Another thing we have in common. On Facebook, I have decided to celebrate my birthday month with pictures of my life, and asked friends to contribute. So far that has unearthed a decent prom photo. I’m really trying to ignore the number associated with my actual day and just celebrate life.
Happy Birthday Month to you, Lisa!! An excellent idea. I will make sure to check out the pictures you’re posting on FB this month.
I removed my actual birth date from all social media platforms earlier this year. I’ll be sad not to have a Facebook birthday, but I don’t think having that information out in public is wise.
Nope, a single day is plenty to remind me of how tight the mortal coil has become.
You are one of the youngest people I know, Lou.
smiles secret wizard smile.
… and that’s not just whistling Dixie. (Sorry, somebody had to say it first.) Happy birthday month! Hope each day is awesome and fun filled.
So far, so good. Thank you, Jessie.
Nope. I don’t even think I celebrate the day. It’s not a sad thing, it’s just that I am uncomfortable with celebrating me…now…about those rascally kids of mine…different story there.
I love celebrating other people’s birthday, especially when they’re excited and joyous…LIKE YOU!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MONTH ANDRA!!!!
It’s just great to be given another year. Thank you, Lori.
I remember celebrating my birthday week, then a birthday weekend when it landed right and nowadays, just the day will do. Happy Birthday Month Andra and your menu looked delicious.
MTM made up the menu. He is such a creative cook. I couldn’t watch the lobsters go in the pot, though………..Thanks for the well wishes, Howard.
Damn what a meal!
It was. I’m still feeling it today.
I don’t even celebrate my birthday and often have a hard time remembering my age without having to do the math all over again. So definitely not the month either.
Seeing that menu and those pictures I can pretty much guarantee you that Krista will be signing up to be a sister wife and leaving me soon. I got beat fair and square though, that MTM is a hell of a man!
Krista and I have been plotting our sister-wifedom all day, as you saw.
My hubby, my daughter and I all have birthdays within 31 days (32 days on leap years) of each other, starting with his and ending with mine. Add in having celebrations for the kiddo here in Charleston and upstate in my hometown with my extended family, and we’re in birthday central for the last week of February and almost the entire month of March. We’ll be celebrating right along with you this month
Happy Birthday Season to the Boccucci household.
Same to you this month!
This is my birthday month, too, Andra!
And yes, I do celebrate it all month, but mostly by doing things I want to do on my own and not involving others. I have so little time alone, which on the whole is a good thing, of course, but to be contemplative towards the future and reflective on the past year, I like to have some alone time. I have marked out several occasions for little things I’d like to do for myself and by myself this month. That’s my gift to me! Happy Birthday month to you, my friend, and MTM appears to have some rather great culinary expertise! Your meal looked just wonderful to me!
Debra, I love your idea of taking time for yourself during your birthday month. It has to be rejuvenating. Happy Birthday Month to you, too!!
Happy Birthday. It sounds as Micheal’s helping to make it a nice one. We wish you a great year ahead.
Tess has a birthday this month also – actually it’s today, the 4th.
For me, I like what a friend suggested which is a birthday week. A week of daily indulgences of what we might normally deny ourselves or put off due to cost or calories. One day might be a massage, another an outrageous food choice & etc.
Happy Birthday to Tess. Please give her my regards.
Birthday Week does allow some overeating, doesn’t it? While overeating for an entire month could cause problems with the figure. That’s a great idea.
Happy birthday month, indeed!
I love my birthday. It’s been tougher to live it up in leaner years, and this one is no exception, but I still love it.
Sleeping late can be the best birthday month treat…….it only costs what you don’t get done.
It’s my birthday month as well, Andra, although I’ve never celebrated it before… it’s never too late to start, is it?
Happy Birthday Month to you, by the way!
Happy Birthday Month to you, Tom. Please let me know if you incorporate any additional festivities into your month.
Happy Birthday Month Andra!
Thank you, Heather.
Happy birthday month! Glad you, or at least your lobsters, enjoyed the Death Pot.
I hope they were gone before they knew what was happening………it always makes me sad.
Happy Birthday month Andra! I do not believe I have ever heard of someone celebrating their “birthday month” but hey, why not? I believe that life is a gift and it is something to be enjoyed and celebrated. My birthday always gets overshadowed by Thanksgiving so I usually celebrate both of them together. Katy always makes a big deal over my birthday but I do not. I am thankful for each day of life I am given though.
As for that meal it looked very interesting. I am glad that MTM treats you like a queen.
It’s good that Katy makes a big deal over you, James. I really hope she starts to feel better soon. She’s been battling this bronchitis for too long.
Lobster is a FAB way to kick off your birthday month.
I do celebrate all month long, usually.
Last July, with all the issues to be addressed, my birthday got ignored until the day before, the day of, and . . . the day I returned HOME AT LAST to BFF (with mom in tow).
We might as well celebrate, right? Better than the alternative…..
Since my birthday month is December, the whole month is one big celebration.
Enjoy your month, Andra. MTM can come on up here and cook anytime. That is one good looking meal.
The next time we come to Chicago, I wil definitely let you know.
Where to start? The menu: Amazing. The photos: Scrumptious! The man: A Keeper. The Blogger: Incredible. Thanks for sharing your wonderful dinner. And that is a great pic of MTM. He looks ever so boyish.
He is a handsome fellow, isn’t he?
What a fantastic dinner. If you’re going to have lobster, have it at home. In a restaurant, you’d have to sell your car to pay the bill. I’ve been robbed a couple of times when forgetting that they charge lobster by the kilo in French restaurants – therefore a lobster dish at 45€ works out at 90€ if the lobster is 2kg! That Picpoul de Pinet is delicious. One of our favourites.
A glut of lobster in the US has made them more affordable in recent months, though we never order it at restaurants, either…….unless we happen to be in Maine.
OMG, are morels happening already? Is it spring? Suddenly I am starving.
I ordered the morels from this place: http://www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com/farwest_fungi.php
I bet you can find some in Boston, though. Surely.
Happy birthday month, Andra. This is why I celebrate birthdays and their months and anything I can think of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnfKmNRfLYU
Ah, Nat. I do love that song, and this version of it. No better way to think about growing older, Kate. Thank you.
