Not Without My Father Is Making Memories

As I've traveled through Tennessee and Louisiana, I've asked groups for a favor. In return for an energetic, entertaining talk, I give them a card. A Make a Memory Card.

As I’ve traveled through Tennessee and Louisiana, I’ve asked groups for a favor. In return for an energetic, entertaining talk, I give them a card.

A Make a Memory Card.

I ask everyone to think of someone. Maybe this person is challenging or difficult. Perhaps they’re far afield or hard to access. In some cases, they may even be slipping away.

Everybody has somebody who needs Make a Memory.

I implore people to give me those names, to breathe life into making memories. And I challenge them to go away and Make a Memory.

Sometimes, people actually return the cards. I’m featuring a few today.

I think it’s a fantastic idea, but so far I only get a few people to return cards at each talk. At my next one, I’m going to give people a few minutes to fill them out, rather than asking them to complete them while I’m talking. I hope to get more return that way.

  1. Interesting responses to your challenge. I wonder if after you’ve done this for a while you’ll see a pattern– or if the responses will be all over the place. Fascinating really.

I hope I’ll see responses all over the place, Ally. That will impact more people, and making the “I’m glad I did’s” happen is what’s important.

You’re very kind, Lance, but I’m not there yet. Determined to be, though.

  3. I love the cards, Andra. I want to read more from others and also participate. I have a mom story formulating…

I’m going to Make a Memory with your Mom, Mary. I want to toast her with a brandy Manhattan the next time I’m there.

  4. What a brilliant concept! I love the idea of it – and am also jealous of your participants because New Orleans is on my bucket list. Good luck with the rest of your tour!

New Orleans is worthy of a bucket list. That could be your Make a Memory this year, Claire!!
