I met Becky Love at an appearance a Shelby, NC’s Fireside Books and Gifts. When I asked her to turn in a Make a Memory card, she didn’t hesitate. She marched up to my memory box, completed her card with confidence and dropped it inside.

Make a Memory

Hi, Andra.
I met you at Fireside Books and Gifts in Shelby, NC. I haven’t yet done what I intended to do for making a memory with my 90 year old friend, but I did have a serendipitous occurrence today that adds to my good memories with him.
After several days of extreme cold, R.C. let me know that he needed some help getting groceries and removing some ice from his porch. Another friend and I rode up to the remote area where he lives and visited while we got the things done that he needed help with.
R.C. is quite an interesting character, a self made man who built the house that he and his wife lived in together until she died, where he continues to write songs, make videos, and paint pictures and cut-out Cowboys for his shooting gallery. Before we left, he picked up his guitar with a rhinestone studded strap that he made from a ladies belt and sang a few songs he had written, starting with Cliffside Cowboy that includes memories from his childhood.

Sounds like Becky is onto something unique and delightful with her friend, R.C. Will look forward to finding out how her tribute evolves. Such a kind thing to do.

We become enriched by the people around us, and if we’re very, very lucky – we read wonderful authors’ words and become even more enriched as those people become a part of our story.
