Coax Out The Beauty | #makeamemory

Every piece of junk’s got a beautiful soul. It just takes the right person to coax it out. ~Roy Watkins Abigail Adams is probably my favorite First Lady. She wasn't a traditional beauty, but her husband John never wanted another soul. While he traveled to Europe as French ambassador and served in multiple political positions in the formative United States, Abigail bore children, managed their Massachusetts farm and investments, and left a prolific cache of eloquent writing. I think about Abigail Adams a lot.

Abigail Adams is probably my favorite First Lady. She wasn’t a traditional beauty, but her husband John never wanted another soul. While he traveled to Europe as French ambassador and served in multiple political positions in the formative United States, Abigail bore children, managed their Massachusetts farm and investments, and left a prolific cache of eloquent writing.

I think about Abigail Adams a lot. She sometimes went for more than a year without seeing her husband’s face, but she never doubted his love. She always knew he’d come home. Their love letters are a lesson in longing and devotion, but don’t take my word for it. I highly recommend this out-of-print edition of My Dearest Friend. Get it HERE.)

Abigail’s tenacity feeds me when I’m on the road. She never wanted to spend much of her married life apart from her husband. Her wishes speak through the faded loops of her pen more than two centuries later. They coaxed out the special wonder in each other.

Much like MTM and me. I don’t like being apart from him. His absence is a black hole in my soul. I wish I made enough money to take him with me every time I head out on the road.

In the coming weeks, I’ll be without him too much. I’m keynoting a conference in Ecuador. In April, I’ll visit Arizona, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Tennessee, and Texas in one lonely slog. During late May and most of June, I have an EVEN BIGGER travel surprise. I’ll share it in an upcoming newsletter.

  1. I’ve never been a fan of the Reagan administration, but the love story of Ronald and Nancy is also a fine example of devotion.

  2. One of my favorite quotes in your book. I have a lot of flags on the book, but this one is the one I turn to the most.

  3. Wow, lots of travel ahead for you. No need to unpack those toiletries!

It is difficult to leave our loved ones, but I find absence makes us appreciate them all the more. And that’s always a good thing.

I remember that quote of your father’s from your book. Love it.

  4. I love that quote!
I wish MTM could go with you. I also wish you could visit my niece in Cumbaya. She’ll be there till May. She’s iiving with a host family.

  5. I like the quote….especially set against the backdrop of an old relic house. That would make a good motivational post on my desk 🙂
