Residency Hello and Goodbye

What's the hardest thing about residencies? Saying goodbye to writers who become friends. Meet a couple of the residents from Stiwdio Maelor!

What’s the hardest thing about residencies?

Saying goodbye to fellow writers who become friends.

Meet Karen Deaver from Princeton, New Jersey. I took her to the train station in Machynlleth this morning. I’m sad she’s gone and grateful to have met her. Since she’s in the states, we can carry on our friendship stateside, too!!

Karen is working on a novel. She has a bead on literary representation. Keep your fingers crossed for her!

I also shared the house for two weeks with a London-based artist. Roy Willingham has a book in the rare books collection at Oxford’s famous Bodleian Library. He placed second in a contest to recreate a modern book using medieval standards.

You can like Roy’s Facebook page, Edizioni Porcovolente, by clicking HERE.

Take a look at an excerpt from his award-winning entry.

goodbye

I can’t believe my residency ends in a week. Time evaporates, doesn’t it? When I told the people at Idris Stores I was leaving soon, they said, “We’re not letting you leave!”

Given the content of my post tomorrow, I really loved hearing that today. Ha.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for I AM NUMBER 13, November 13, 2018!

Isn’t the cover gorgeous? I cannot stop sharing it!

  1. It is indeed a beautiful and engaging cover! And it’s very nice to meet some of the authors and artists you’ve formed bonds with, and to know how they’ve made your time at the residency an even richer experience. It is very hard to believe it is coming to an end so soon. I can barely take that in. I’m sure you’re drinking in every last drop of inspiration. 🙂
