When you don’t have money, you tend to avoid the holiday rush. 🙂 One of the best ways to keep your cool and avoid being trampled or getting into an argument in stores is to order online. 🙂 I’m also making some gifts to give out, which is a lovey way to keep my blood pressure on an even keel. I can make them while watching a good movie or a couple of episodes of a TV show.
Spread your gift shopping over the entire year and do most/all of it online….you can browse to your heart’s content and NOT be constrained by local “tastes.” 🙂 Also, sometimes it’s okay to Just. Say. No!! You don’t have to take in every holiday activity known to man. 😉
Once I started growing into myself and began to focus on giving, rather than getting, my holiday stress levels dropped dramatically.
It’s about memories and not presents. So I try to make the gifts be experiences. For those actual presents though I shop year round and avoid all of the madness.
I think that my stress levels reduced when I decided I wasn’t willing to give up an entire month of each year to spend all of my available time running like my hair is on fire–I did that for a long time! 🙂 Instead, I buy fewer gifts, but try to avoid impulse gifts and instead I shop at unique little stores and buy things that are somewhat distinctive–that isn’t always expensive, just unique. I take the word “expectation” off the table, and slow down! It’s only the 4th, but so far so good. We’ll see how I’m doing around the 20th. ox
