“Take care of all your memories, for you cannot relive them.” – Bob Dylan
I’m coming to the end of my time in Wales, but I’m writing this before I go. I scheduled the last few posts on my first day in England, a jet lagged blur of coffee and pinching myself and trying to catch up before I went offline.
I wrote this to come back to it. I had some specific goals for my residency, and I wonder how I did?
- To get the sequel to Hard to Die ready for beta readers, which means a heavy rewrite.
- To write the first draft of another novel.
- Put the final touches on Hard to Die and have it ready for Advance Reader Copies by July 1.
- To hike every day and come home 8 – 10 pounds lighter, my heart stronger from my daily uphill cardio routine.
- To make a few connections that will expand my UK readership.
- To research yet another novel.
- To plot out my writing getaway for next summer. I’m percolating a very exciting nonfiction project. I can’t wait to share it with you when appropriate.
- To read a couple of books for others and give those writers a start on their careers.
- To sleep in, let my mind wander, and remember what it’s like to be untethered from the online world.
I’m sure I’ll be interested in reading this list today. When I get home, I’ll write a followup post to let you know how I did. It’s an ambitious list, isn’t it? But I’m determined to take care of business AND take care of ME.

How ironic to read this after just reading and commenting on Kate’s post. I marvel that you could accomplish all of those things – I’ve no reason to think you didn’t – and possibly eke out any “me”-time! Cannot wait to read the results of all this productivity!
That is quite an impressive list.
Some list. Good for you.
That is the sweetest picture, Andra. Funny because just today I visited a dairy farm and took random pictures of cows and calfs. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear how you did against this list of goals. Just make sure not to beat yourself up if the results were not to your liking. 🙂
Taking care of yourself and business? You rock, Andra!
