How do I get events?

In part, YOU make it happen. Wherever you are, you can help bring me to your area by making a few simple connections.

• Are you a member of a book club? Suggest one of my books as a monthly read. Then, invite me to attend the discussion. I love meeting readers at book clubs, where the conversation can range as far as the group desires.
• Do you have a librarian friend? Order my books for their collection. Then, tell them you know an excellent author program for the library. Most of my library appearances come from patron recommendations. By requesting and recommending, YOU get my books and my body in the door.
• Are you planning an event and need a speaker? THEN BOOK ME! I love giving motivational talks and have scads and scads of enthusiastic recommendations. Anyone who’s seen me will tell you I’m not a boring author talk. I entertain, educate, and inspire groups everywhere I go.
• Do you know someone who’s part of your local Friends of the Library? Then, suggest me as a keynote for their annual meeting. Most Friends groups bring authors in as annual entertainment. I’d love to be considered for any group, anywhere.
• Are you a part of a historical society? Then, book me to speak. My topics interest historical groups. They’re always happy to see someone enthusiastically bring history to life.
• Are you an advisor at a local college or university? Then, convince your student groups to book me to speak. I’ve appeared at the University of Washington in Seattle, the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and other college groups. Because making memories doesn’t start when we realize our life clocks are ticking.

Readers open doors.

That’s right. I pound pavement, send queries, and never stop asking for opportunities, but YOU open more doors than I can. We’re all connectors, right?

So, I hope you’ll bring me to your area. I’m looking for August events in Minneapolis/St. Paul, greater St. Louis, and greater Cincinnati. In September, I’m seeking events in greater Pittsburgh and Dallas/Fort Worth. In October, I’ve already got events scheduled in Washington and Oregon, but I’d love to book a few more while I’m out there. Plus, I’d love to schedule October events in greater Denver and greater Washington DC.
