Life has reverted to how it is when we’re together. We bask in each other’s company. Savor every meal. Hold hands as we gaze at our world.

In Madrid, we live in the moment.

And that includes lots of discussion about my current manuscript. MTM has read everything I’ve written on residency so far.

I call it “vomit with potential.”

We spent part of the day at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza. As we watched light and shadow play across the artwork, we came back to the story I’m making. Are the characters true? What’s missing? How do I weave this story into its most compelling tone?

After our artistic sojourn, we meandered to Vinoteca Moratin for a decadent Spanish lunch. Thanks to Janet Haslett for the recommendation. We loved it. My photography doesn’t do it justice.

After lunch, we trekked to Zara on Gran Via for more cheap zapatas. I waited in line almost an hour to try on two dresses. I DEPLORE SHOPPING. But I LOVE cheap zapatas. 🙂 I got two more pairs of sandals.

And because we rented an apartment, we came back to enjoy sunset on our balcony. With a picnic of jamon. Patatas fritas. Queso. Pan. And a bottle of Albarino. Together. Everything paired well with the cacophony of voices and traffic noise rising from the street.

I don’t want MTM to go home. I wish we could be together all the time. But my manuscript calls. My characters are loud and insistent. One more art-filled day, and I head back to my residency. MTM flies back to the States.

I already can’t wait to be together again.
