Memories of our lives, our works, and our deeds will continue in others. ~ Rosa Parks
How’s this for a number to remember?
23,000
That’s how many people have chosen to purchase my words since To Live Forever debuted in February 2014. I may not be a blockbuster best seller, but my stories continue to make an impact. Every week, I hear from new readers. Some write to tell me how much they loved Em and Merry. Others send paragraphs outlining memories they’ve been inspired to make because of mine and Dad’s story. Still more share memories they’ve made and relived and now want to include me.
If we tally my balance sheet, I’m still not making a living as an author.
BUT I’M STILL RICH.
It may not be happening as fast as I’d like, but my stories are seeping into the mainstream readership. They’re finding new eyes. They’re impacting new people. Sure, I’d like to be able to replenish my savings account and pay my husband back everything he’s invested in this mad dream. But I’m more grateful for the readers who make life changes and take time to tell me why my stories matter.
I work so hard to get my books into new hands, because PEOPLE STILL NEED TO MAKE MEMORIES. And lots of humans don’t stop to consider their lives until they encounter someone who forces them to take a closer look. I will be a tireless promoter of making memories as long as I am able. More than 23,000 people need to make memories.
Still, 23,000 is a decent start!

It’s a fantastic “start.” You have worked and worked and worked. It’s inspiring and humbling. As Aretha said: “You go, girl.”
It feels like it should be a lot more, but I’m going to enjoy what it is today.
The total of 23,000 books sold is an excellent number, Andra. You’re doing well, just keep going!
For as long as I’m able. 🙂 Thank you.
i’m amazed and impressed by that number, you have worked hard for each one of those. you will get there with your will to make things happen.
I hope so. Nothing is guaranteed, but I hope hard will will someday be rewarded.
I think that’s a fantastic number and hopefully it will grow and grow and grow!
I hope so! It’s the only way to continue to do this. 🙂
i know that numbers are very important in the publishing business and that you always want those numbers to climb, but 23,000 isn’t unremarkable! You’ve worked so hard and you’ve made a difference in the lives of those who know you in person, or through your authorship. Count me as one of the 23,000 who is truly in awe of the numbers today and quite confident that they are going to compound!
You’ve played such a big part in this roller coaster. I’m so grateful for you.
I’m sure 23,000 sales won’t finance your retirement, but it IS a great milestone! Think back when Em and Merry were simply voices in your head. So much has happened since — so many lives changed (including your own), and now only weeks from a fourth book hitting the bookstore shelves. Just keep on doin’ what you’re doin’ because it’s all good, and the momentum is building. Hugs.
I’ll keep doing it for as long as I’m able. 🙂 Getting this eye issue under control is a much bigger thing than I anticipated. It’s impacting my stamina, but I’m expecting it to be short-term.
