From May 21 – June 18, 2016, Andra will be writer-in-residence at Stiwdio Maelor in Corris, Wales.

(From the SM website) Stiwdio Maelor was established in July 2014 to provide residency opportunities for artists and writers from the UK and other parts of the world. Creators are invited to take time out of their busy lives, visit a stunning area in North Wales, refocus on their work, and find new inspiration. Stiwdio Maelor provides short term residencies with budget accommodation for visual artists and writers.

As an independent, self-funded project, Stiwdio Maelor seeks to operate ecologically and sustainably, on a not-for-profit basis. Funding to maintain the project comes from the hire of studios to local writers and artists, a nominal fee charged to visiting writers and artists, and from the sale of artworks and donations. The fees are kept as low as possible so that all creators can take advantage of this project.

The studio is located in a traditional shop in the picturesque slate quarrying village of Corris which is nestled amidst the awesome scenery of Snowdonia National Park. Since its conversion, the shop and adjoining premises now houses, two studios, for use by local artists, and three studio/bedrooms for visiting artists and writers. Our larger, attic studio, with its double bed, sitting area and wood fire stove, is particularly suitable for those seeking a little more space and atmosphere.

Originally a quarry mining town, Corris is surrounded by forested hills, old slate workings and ruined quarry buildings. The many well-marked walks and bike trails in the surrounding area, make Maelor a place of tranquility and inspiration. The village boasts a pub, and a small cafe/shop, and is inhabited by people from an eclectic mix of backgrounds and lifestyles. It really should be called the friendliest village in Wales.
