SUMMARY:Lowcountry Initiative of the Literary Arts Book Sale & Author Signing
DESCRIPTION:Join Andra for the inaugural Lowcountry Initiative of the Literary Arts Book Sale & Author Signing. The event will feature over 30 local bestselling authors and indie favorites\, with proceeds benefiting the Lowcountry Initiative for Literary Arts (LILA) and our Charleston Little Free Library Project. \nLittle Free Libraries provide free neighborhood “take a book\, return a book” stations that not only support a love of reading\, but also act as mini-town squares where community members can share with others the titles that have most thrilled\, intrigued\, and excited them. Sure\, they encourage generosity and the exchange of ideas. But most importantly\, these stand-alone book stations act as a permanent testament to the fact that knowledge\, wisdom\, and imagination are accessible to all\, regardless of race\, age\, or economic standing. \nThere are over 30\,000 registered Little Free Libraries across the globe\, and only a handful to be found locally. Our project aims to install book boxes in at least 10 locations throughout the Charleston area\, with hopes that these free libraries will inspire citizens to create their own throughout the broader Lowcountry—ideally\, in areas where they can truly add a new level of community enrichment and enthusiasm for literacy. Any additional proceeds will go to support LILA\, which conducts vital programs like Poetry in the Schools (most recently for Burke High School) and creative writing programs for veterans.
