Limp Biscuit

MTM got up extra early this morning. It was our final breakfast of the trip to Tennessee, and he wanted the oatmeal to be super-special for Dad. He laced it with apples and maple syrup. A singular cup of coffee spangled Dad’s place.

Dad greeted all of the effort in his own unique way.

The Biscuit Box. We need to stop there on the way back.

Dad, that’s out of the way. OUT OF THE WAY!

Nu-uh. It ain’t. I been there before. The Biscuit Box. It’s good eatin’.

It doesn’t really matter to Dad that I cannot eat biscuits. I can’t eat much of anything he’s selected on this long weekend of stomach persecution. Cheeseburgers. Apple pie. French fries. Moon pies. I crunched my unsatisfying lettuce at every meal.

DAD!! THERE’S SOMEBODY YOU DON’T KNOW!!

Huh? Where at?

And, that’s how I stole many a french fry off his plate. I was performing a service, saving him from a diabetic coma.

We stood in line at The Biscuit Box in Chatsworth, Georgia. Miles out of the way. MTM ordered a bacon and egg biscuit and a jelly biscuit. I ordered a bacon biscuit, heartburn flaring before I even bit into it.

Dad ordered grits and eggs, sausage and toast. He didn’t even HAVE a dang biscuit.

    1. He doesn’t like biscuits. That’s why I couldn’t understand why in the world he wanted to go there.

  1. It’s the thought that counts, he coulda had a biscuit if he had a rarin’ to do so.

    1. Ha. After all that, I expected him to at least have ONE.

  2. Andra, this is some of the maddest food commentary that I have ever read. I have never heard of anything that you’re eating but for the eggs and bacon. It occurs to me that the USA is very foreign:)

    1. I spent almost a month in England and Scotland in 2010, Roger, as part of a Rotary cultural exchange. We often commented on how different our countries are. And, you being in France, even more so, though I must say I love it there.

  3. I love biscuits.
    And grits.

    With buttah! πŸ˜€

  4. I has biscuits every day for the past 3 days we have been on vacation. Two mornings were biscuits with sausage gravy! This morning in addition to a biscuit I had fried grits. I think I need to go on a carb free detox. But it was good…

And Nancy says you have probably made up for all your weeks and months of carb free living in this one single weekend. See what family does to us?

    1. I didn’t partake of all of Dad’s excess. πŸ™‚ For the most part, I made good choices.

I hope you and Nancy had a good weekend.

      1. You didn’t participate in all of it… just some of it. Or maybe most of it?

        1. Some of it was plenty.

      2. Good for you Andra. Making healthy food choices is very hard, especially when the hunger sets in and the food smells so good.

  5. Homemade bisquits – oh man…my pants just got a tad bit tighter…oohhh with butter dripping down the side of it. Oh Lordy…my tastebuds would be in heaven…it’s been years. *sigh* Your trip with your favorite two men is so delightful. πŸ™‚

    1. I do not often indulge in biscuits, because they bother my stomach. But, I had one with Dad. πŸ™‚

    1. It was good, Tom. Not so good after I ate it, though.

  6. How funny that he didn’t even eat a biscuit. Have to say, I’m pretty fond of them.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    1. I used to be, Kathy. Not so fond of them these days.

  7. I would have gone, probably not eaten the biscuit, but would have ended up buying one of those coffee mugs. I’m hopeless when it comes to these things.

    1. Don’t tell Dad, Penny, but we bought him a mug for Christmas. πŸ™‚

    2. I love to collect coffee mugs as well.

  8. I think I would love the Biscuit Box. It’s not the south without a Biscuit Box or Cracker Barrel! You probably will be very happy to get home to your own cooking! I can tell you…I would have had a biscuit! πŸ™‚

    1. Ha. I am home today only, and we fly to Denver tonight. MTM is taking a city project to a conference there, and I am going to write feverishly and be his Booth Babe.

      1. Booth babe. Ha! That right there is purdy funny.

  9. I’m sorry you were forced into the biscuit line… but that looks DELICIOUS. I think I might need a biscuit now.

    1. I don’t need to eat any more biscuits for the remainder of the year.
