Because A Vote For Me Is Better Than The Chump You’d Otherwise Vote For

I'm cross-eyed from screens. A blister bubbles on the tip of my index finger. My patootie hurts from sitting in a chair all day. I spent yesterday in an all-day spotlight on the We Love Memoirs Facebook Group. Answering squishy questions. Posting silly photos. Jumping through every hoop those dear people threw there for me.

I’m cross-eyed from screens.

I don’t think I sold many books, but when I finally pried my ass from the chair and fell into bed, it was like a full fifteen miles. In the sun. And wind. And heat. And hail.

I’m very grateful to everyone who popped over there on Mother’s Day.

There. I can’t type anymore, except to ask for one thing.

Goodreads has a list called “Best Memoir/Biography/Autobiography.” Would you take two seconds, click the link, scroll down the page to the “Lists With This Book” section, click that link and vote for Not Without My Father?

VOTE FOR NOT WITHOUT MY FATHER ON GOODREADS!

NOTE: When I last checked, NWMF was #379, shown on PAGE 4.

If everyone who’s reviewed the book actually voted, it would move up the list. More people might find it, read it and start making meaningful memories. I mean, who WOULDN’T want to vote for me?!? It’s a vote you can enjoy casting.

For a change. 🙂

How did YOU spend YOUR Mother’s Day?

  1. There must have been a better way, but yesterday I searched (and searched some more) until I found NWMF, and I voted. Are we allowed to vote more than once, or will someone at Goodreads shake their finger at ballot box stuffers? Whether you sold a lot of books or not yesterday I can’t tell, but it did look as if you opened the door to some new friendships. I’d guess that in the long run it will turn out to be time well spent. Hope your finger heals more quickly than your tootsies did last year!

As of right now (1:36PM EST), the book is at number 192. It is on page 2. (Page numbers are listed at the bottom of the page.) I’m sorry Goodreads doesn’t make it easy to send this out as a direct link, and I’m even sorrier it doesn’t work on mobile devices. I’m making this comment to every commenter in hopes that skimmers will see it. If just 50 people vote, NWMF can make it to the top 50. We all know people won’t skim this list beyond the first page, so getting the book to move up will help other readers find and consider it. I know. I know. All I do is ask people to do things for me. I wish the homecoming queenification of the world wasn’t a thing, because it wears me out. I’ll come back and update the number above as things change. Thank you for voting.

  2. Good deal! Off to vote for you now. Oh, and spent most of Mother’s day harassing Nancy and her mom. And a nap. Was a good day.

  3. I cannot figure out how to vote for it. I can’t find “memoir” in the 4179 lists. I must’ve missed it. I’ll try again this evening.

      1. Okay. Whew. Finally found it at #165 and voted. I don’t think GR will let me vote again, but I’ll give it a shot.

  5. I spent it doing what mother’s do…rescuing my middle boy and his two little girls. :-/ Received a call from my oldest son (yay!), received a visit from my baby girl, got to see my middle son and got to snuggle and love on my two grand babies. Was a very good day.

  6. I will head over there now to vote. Work, be damned.

      1. Yep, confirmation that when I reply to your reply via the notifications panel in WP, my comment goes POOF (despite confirmation that I successfully replied).

It took a bit of digging, but I successfully voted just moments after my original comment. Good luck!

I really don’t know what to do about this issue. Fixing it will require spending more money on this site, when I’m currently uncertain how much I want to do here.

Thank you so much for taking time to vote. I wish it were easier to send people over there, but they’ve made it intentionally hard to ask people directly to vote.

  7. I’m not part of goodreads anymore, but from the comments above it looks like your book is trending. Instead of voting, I’ll think positive thoughts about you, your hard work and your memoir. We all do what we can– and perhaps some of it even helps. 😉

Everything helps, Ally………if it can break through how freaking hard this is and work its way into my soul.

  8. For those looking…I had to search, because the book is moving up the chart! Try page 2 and moving up! 🙂

  9. Voted, good luck A

For mother’s day we did what Bobina wanted, we went shopping and ate horribly, She had a blast.

  10. I’m in. 157 and climbing! Way to go NWMF!

  11. That was quite an effort. I voted but wow. Not user friendly. You were at 139. Nice!

I know. They really, really, really don’t want authors providing links to their books to ask for votes. Obviously.

  12. I finally found the site where I could vote! Yay!!!

  13. I’m having one heck of a time finding and voting, Andra. I’ll keep trying, but ????

Penny, when I click on the above link, it takes me directly to my current spot (117.) You *should* be able to click the vote button right under the book. I realize this isn’t working for everyone. If you’re trying from your phone or other mobile device, try clicking the above link from your desktop. It seems to only like desktop clicks. Thank you for letting me know, and for trying.

      1. Done!
The link was just taking me to the booklist and there was no way to vote. I finally just searched Goodreads Best Memoir/Biography/Autobiography and the list came up, you book came up, above Bill Bryson on page 2, and you now have one more vote. 🙂 I’d just above given up, but, being stubborn, didn’t.

  14. It is 6:03 a.m. CST and NWMF is at 106. I just cast my vote! Just for the record, it is way easier to vote for it on a regular computer.

  15. I voted on both the memoir lists!
I spent Mother’s Day with my in-laws. We had a great conversation with the nieces about life.
