Thomas is four. He invited me into his Inner Sanctum, I mean, his playroom. The one over the garage.
“I have five of these cars. All the same.” He held out a shrunken Corvette. In yellow. “You can have this one.”
“Okay.”
I took it. Because…..well……gifts from four-year-olds…….a refusal might offend.
Yesterday I dug that toy out of the depths of my purse, and I remembered how much fun I had with a certain little boy. Thanks to him, his mom and his dad for putting us up for a few days. And, a special thanks to him for the wheels. I hope he likes where I’m taking them.
So far.

Love! The pictures will blow his mind. He loves you & MTM. Can’t tell you how many times he’s paused a game of Blanket Ghost to ask when Andra and her “boyfriend” are coming back!
I hope I can see you the weekend of April 26 – 27. I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve figured out the logistics. Please give him a big hug from me.
Vancouver is a great city for readjusting. Thomas’s car sure gets around.
I’m taking it easier today, Lisa.
What a cool gift! Little kids give their stuff away so freely. I love that it was “all the same”.
He had quite a few cars. I don’t know how he’d miss this one. Ha.
So sweet! Kids named Thomas are the best (but I might be biased). I bet he’s very pleased with where you’re taking your gift!
I must be partial to the name Thomas, too. (Since it’s the T in MTM. 🙂 )
Cool! A good kid who likes cars. Now if we could just move him from Corvettes to real quality cars. 😉 Maybe you should send him the Hot Wheel of a Fiat 500. And yes, they make one.
He probably has one somewhere in his Big Bucket of Cars.
Vancouver is a beautiful place to wander. We usually stay close to Stanley Park and that is a great place to wander. The aquarium there is very cool.
I’m saving that for when MTM gets out of the conference. Plus, maybe my feet won’t hurt so much by then. Ha.
What a treasure! Gifts from children are the best! I’m so glad you’re adjusting well. I’m sure your feet are happier now that they aren’t being forced to walk for 15 miles day in and day out. It looks beautiful where you are…that’s the constant isn’t it, you find the beauty in it all. Looking forward to your next book Andra, and, I’m so curious as to how you’ll publicize the next one.
I’m curious about how I’ll publicize the next one, too, Lori. Ha.
You got a sunny day! YAY!!
It was so lovely yesterday. I stayed outside pretty much all day.
Very cool – I love little die-cast cars. Is that your calligraphy in that one photo?
Yep. They had a place to sit and try it. All my strokes are too fat, but it was fun.
Very cool. That’s something I’ve never tried my hand at.
Great photos! You know you’re loved when a child invites you into his inner sanctum and gives up one of his cars!
He never asked for it back, so I guess he likes me.
that is a big, big deal to be invited in and to be given a special gift.
He didn’t give MTM anything when he went up there. 🙂
Very cool – I love little die-cast cars. Is that your calligraphy in that one photo? And how did you goof up the video, is it the fountain noise?
I got the my miles and hours a day mixed up.
As in, “five miles in fifteen hours?” Yeah, I’m bad at noticing that stuff myself.
Thomas is such a sweetie! He calls me “Cappy.”
Hugs from Ecuador,
Kathy
I bet he’d love to see you and Sara again.
Those wheels sure give the FIAT some competition! What a cutie pie! 🙂
I’m having fun finding new places to put it.
A little boy’s car. One of the great gifts life can bring. It stirs many memories for me 🙂 Enjoy yours, Andra.
As long as I’m careful not to step on it, I should be fine. 🙂
Sweetness. What a lovely story. 🙂
He was a fun kid.
You and MTM need a Thomas. I think you’d be good at it.
We decided a couple of years ago that we make better aunt/uncles than parents. If we’d met earlier in life, we would’ve given it a go.
We Thomases are like that, Andra! 😉
You are, aren’t you?
Did you put that photo of flowers up just for me? Maybe not, but thanks just the same!
Hey, Andra, have only seen bits and bobs of your trip over the past weeks. So great to be seeing your page again. I LOVE, with a capital L, your video questions and answers. And awesome that you incorporated MTM in as well.
Since I haven’t been here in quite some time, I have to say that you MUST write a journal account of your Natchez Trace Walk (if you haven’t already decided to do it). I’m sure you tales to tell. So glad it was a great experience for you, and that you’re back full-time with your beau!
I spend a lot of time playing with four-year-olds! I’m glad you had the pleasure. 🙂 They are honest little souls at that age, and I’m sure Thomas felt very special for have enjoyed your attention, too. ox
