Elizabeth Yon is the Empress of Creepy. Seriously. In her latest book Blackfern Girls (Bannerwing Books, 2014), she pulls four stories from the murk of the Johns Woods and splatters them across the page. The atmosphere embraces a reader. It’s almost hypnotic……until the characters squeeze.
And the reader forgets to breathe.
Or can’t.
Breathe.

Sounds perfect for this Halloween week!
It’s perfect for anytime, Renee, but a must read for this week.
The Empress of Creepy! I’m having a shirt made with my new title emblazoned on it! Thank you, Andra.
I’m glad you like. 🙂
Wow. The cover gives me the shivers! Very atmospheric.
The stories live up to the cover, Linda. I especially hope she expands the second one into a full-blown novel.
You’ve hooked me, Andra. Sounds like a spooky read for this time of year (or any other). 🙂
A worthwhile investment, Penny.
Great review, Andra 🙂 So delighted by this book,
I was really honored to participate in its launch. Thanks for including me.
I love Elizabeth Yon. Love love love her. Also, you’ve now unfortunately caused this to happen:

Annie Lennox is never unfortunate. 🙂
I’m terrified of scary. I once attempted to read a Dean Koontz book and made it to page 63 but had nightmares every single night until I mailed the book to a friend who was very far away…it is the ONLY book I never finished and I’ve learned that I go so deeply into what I’m reading and watching that I protect myself by not reading scary….but I will pass it on to others who like scary. 😀
Scary is a tough read, especially when the writer does it well. 🙂
I also attempted to read a Dean Koontz book that everybody in my family read and loved — I just couldn’t get through half of it. And I tried three times. So maybe this book will be my substitute.
Claudia, I’m glad I’m not alone. 😀 Let me know if you make it through this one and I’ll try it.
I loved the book and all the stories. I haven’t slept well in a week because of Rumkin but it’s been worth it. Elizabeth has a gift with descriptions. (I don’t normally do scary books/movies but this one exception was so worth it.)
The atmosphere in this book is excellent. Well done.
this looks so creepy and scary
I will! I haven’t read anything “creepy” in a long time. 🙂
