5 Ways to Fill Your Creative Tank This Week

I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for ways to fill my creative tank. Read on to discover 5 ways I'm filling my creative tank this week. Maybe you'll be inspired with a few ideas of your own!

I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for ways to fill my creative tank.

Here are 5 ways I’m filling my creative tank this week.

  1. Watching nature. MTM gave me a bird feeder for my birthday. It’s hanging in a tree outside my window. While I’m revising I Am Number 13, finches/cardinals/wrens/sparrows warble feathery song inches from my face.
  2. Practicing yoga. Being on the road as much as I am, I have to find reliable workouts online. Heart Alchemy Yoga with Michelle Goldstein is my go-to power stretch.
  3. Reading. Current read: I’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer by Michelle McNamara. (And if you need a few good reads, get my books HERE.)
  4. Hibernating. For the next two weeks, I’ll be home. I haven’t spent a two-week stretch in my own home this year. However glamorous it looks from the outside, being on the road grinds me down to the nub. I want to be a little restless. Even bored. Quiet moments often yield the best epiphanies.
  5. Exfoliating. Travel strips my skin of everything good. Right now, I’m a husky old crone. I’m nourishing my face with masks of Bentonite clay, followed an application of Nuxe Dry Oil for deep moisturizing. On my body, I’m scrubbing down with Aesop Geranium Leaf Body Scrub. Oh, and I’m drinking lots of tea.

Tell me about you. What are you doing to fill your creative tank this week?

  1. Those sound like wonderful things to do. Although it may seem odd, I’ll be filling my creative tank when I drive to New Hampshire this weekend. The 10-11 hour solitary drive is a great way for me to disconnect. I spend some time thinking about my writing projects, and the rest I spend listening to an audiobook. It’s quite relaxing, although I must admit, I get a little restless after hour 8. ?

Safe travels! I agree. Driving can be the perfect way to unplug.

  2. Creative tank: as much time outside as possible; working in my journal; the usual.

Hiking is another biggie for me. You’re right. The outdoors are inspiring.

  3. Those are all great ways to fill up the tank, Andra, especially communing with nature. It’s a nice, warm day here, so I plan to go for a walk on my lunch break. It’s always a good way to rejuvenate and keep the 2:00 pm sleepies away. Enjoy your time at home!

  4. I really do need to refill my creative tank. Sometimes I fear I have nothing else to write. Perhaps the warmer weather of Spring will jump start my creative heart! I like your ideas.

  5. In the spirit of number 1, I stopped reading and cleaned and refilled the Hummingbird feeder. Just finished K-129 and starting Red Sparrow. I usually use motor oil, or some other dinosaur byproduct product, as a moisturizer. Mowing the lawn is a good way to eliminate stress. Permatex Fast Orange hand cleaner is my favorite soap. ?

We still need a hummingbird feeder! Does yours get a lot of visitors?

      1. I have seen more Hummingbirds visiting the Lavender than the feeder? I suspect they may not like the fancy feeder I bought last year. ? I have seen them use the really simple feeders over the years.

  6. I was humming along there with you until we got to the last. I guess I don’t think of exfoliating. I’m sure that “shedding” would be good for me. 🙂 It makes me laugh as I think of shedding my snake skin– a metaphor for number of things that come to mind! I’d add to my list long distance walking. I do enjoy my yoga and meditation, but long, long walks create the best thinking time! I can sort out so many issues with my hikes!

I neglect exfoliating too much, as my mother helpfully (bitchily) pointed out today on FaceTime. It’s one of those super-decadent ways to self-care, though. I’m trying to do a better job.
