NYT Best Selling Author Seeks Contract Publicist

NYT bestselling author and dynamic public speaker seeks part-time contract publicist for coordination of national speaking schedule.

Contract publicist position is ideal for senior level college student/marketing major or recent college graduate.

Start Date: 1 March 2019

Hours per Month: Up to 40; more possible as determined by author;

Compensation: $15 per hour plus bonuses for paid speaking engagements procured by publicist

Duties include:

Public Speaking Pitching:

  • Identifying and pitching groups for speaking opportunities both electronically and via phone;
  • Sending all collateral materials for event;
  • Re-confirming events two weeks in advance;
  • Responding to e-mail and telephone questions from event organizers;
  • Research into new and lucrative speaking opportunities

Media Pitching:

  • Crafting pitches to the media;
  • Pitching media outlets in advance of author appearances around the country;
  • Following up on media pitches; 
  • Any other publicity-related duties as agreed upon by author and publicist.

Reporting/Documention:

  • Entering all confirmed events and interviews into shared calendar and author website calendar;
  • Compiling weekly reports for author on status of all outstanding pitches;

      It’s a catch-22 for me. I can’t afford not to, but I end up giving them the dregs of what I make. My current publicist has done a great job, but it’s time for her to move on. I’ve needed other things for a while now, and she sort of got into a rhythm of what she wanted to do. I’ve not been very good at insisting on getting what I requested, because it took more effort than I was willing to expend. Ha.
