A federal ranger was parked across the road from mile post 222 on the Natchez Trace. He waved a survey stake in my direction.
“Saw you walking the Trace sometime last week.”
“Yeah. I’m halfway to Nashville right here.”
He flung his things in the back of the truck. And smiled. “I think you just might make it.”
I think I just might make it, too, Dear Readers.

I’m so glad that ranger came to encourage you, Andra!!
Linda, so was I. 🙂
Yes, so glad the ranger observed you and took the time to let you know! Sending you our love from SC!
Thanks, Laura! The love keeps me going.
Big snake? I bet I would be all the way to Nashville in one day if it was close to me 🙂 Stay safe – so proud of you.
It was pretty sluggish, because it was chilly. Still, I didn’t get too close.
” . . . the only thing we have to fear is…fear itself . . .” and snakes!! (Apologies to FDR) 🙂 Good job, Andra!!
I read a really great FDR biography on this trip, Karen. Debra recommended it. Franklin and Lucy.
Face it, Andra, you’ve become an athlete.
Ha. I doubt it, Jim. I doubt it.
Yay the day has finally arrived! Sharing is caring! 🙂
Thanks for sharing, Nancy.
Yeah, you will make it. 🙂
I hope so. Dad tells me every five minutes how hard Tennessee is going to be.
Done, done, and done. Although I already have 3 copies of your book. Maybe I need more, more, more!!
Oh, and how come no video of the snake?!?
I took a picture of the snake, but it didn’t really come out well…….because I refused to get any closer………..
Rangers are great people. Nice to know they are kind of watching out for you.
I always try to tell them what I’m doing when I see them.
Congrats on the halfway point! You can DO it!
Thanks, Lucie.
i KNOW you will make it, andra!
One day at a time. It’s all I can do to get each day done.

Heh. Well, I can see you doing time as a motivational speaker of sorts, as this is the sort of thing that gets people off their asses and walking just for health reasons. Granted, I don’t think they’ll do what you’re doing, but if one person reads that book or reads of this hike gone haywire with a purpose and gets the idea to get moving, that’s one more person making a change they needed.
The better half of this walk is yet to come. Um… you aren’t walking back home, right? 😀
No. NOT WALKING back home. I get to rest in Nashville for a few days, too.
As my husband would say, “You are a superior woman.” (That’s what he started calling me after I trudged up a mountainside with him in Ecuador, many, many years ago. The things we do for love.)
Nice to know a superior woman, Marie. You’re not afraid of adventure.
Ha, I wouldn’t say I’m not afraid. It’s just sometimes I know I’ll get a nice “reward,” like a marriage proposal 🙂 (OK, I guess that only applies once.)
So proud of you.
Lori, I stood there too tired to feel proud. 🙂
Yea! Halfway through – and a ranger said it was so. You are like the little engine that could, Andra.
I do find myself muttering, “I think I can” a lot, Penny. 🙂
To me it seems like you are just flying through the miles! But I know to you and your tired, blistered feet, not so much! You are doing so great!
Thanks, Debbie. I wish I could fly right now. 🙂
I am incredibly in awe of you, standing three feet away from a snake, at the 222 mile marker. So amazing. Carry on, Andra, there will be peace (and wine) when you are done.
And wine. And wine. And WINE. 🙂
Great shot of you signing the book on MP 222. Who snapped the shot?
My mom.
Bravo! Just tweeted you a little note as well 🙂
Thanks, Angela!
Congratulations! I’ll think you’ll do it, too, quite simply because it never occurred to me for even a fraction of a second that you wouldn’t. 🙂
Thanks, Heather. I’m glad you believe. I’ve wavered a time or several.
