This was an emotional piece to create. I haven’t shared much about my early adulthood, my mistake marriage, or the relationships I lost in the aftermath of our breakup. I don’t care about most of them, but this one will always sting.
Regret manifests in crushing ways.
It flutters through a song. Lingers in a scent. Causes heartburn after eating a meal. It haunts once-favorite places and seeps into our dreams.
Regret makes this very personal essay universal. I hope it speaks to you.

Sad and powerful. Well done.
Never easy to share this type of story. It is well done. Abusive relationships are too common. Unfortunately, the abuser uses fear to gain control and usually makes the victim believe that it is their fault. Maybe your friend still needs help? You maybe the only one who knows her story.
I’m not. And no matter how much I want another person to do a thing, he or she ultimately choose for themselves.
